Once Upon A Love
Hurt too many times by women, Jake Tyrell no longer believes in happily-ever-after. Despite his vow to never marry, he promises to provide a home for his dying brother’s children. When the hired nursemaid arrives in California, she is not the woman he expected. This woman, although beautiful, can’t cook, wash, or clean, and worse, she believes in a fairy tale life—one that includes love and marriage.
On the run from her controlling brother and a life of privilege, Amanda Collingsworth rescues three abandoned children and arrives by coach in Sacramento posing as their mother. Safely at her destination, she finds her false identity both protective and problematic. Working with Jake to safeguard the children, she finds herself attracted to a man who believes in lust rather than love. Her body craves his touch, but can she ever hope to win his heart?

Jake leaned closer and Amanda knew, even in the dark, he intended to kiss her. At the last moment, she turned her head. His lips missed the mark and brushed against her cheek. His mouth skimmed over her jaw and down her neck. He placed nibbling kisses across her skin until he reached her ear.
“I didn’t plan for this to happen,” he said in a throaty whisper. “But as long as we’re here, I can’t think of any reason why we shouldn’t find pleasure in each other’s arms.”
Neither could Amanda.
Her entire body tingled with excitement. The sound of his voice next to her ear caused shivers to snake through her body. The wash of his warm breath and the trail of kisses he placed on her neck set her on fire. His hips moved, and she became aware of how they touched. Her legs were apart, and he lay cradled between her thighs. The only thing between her and Jake were the trousers he wore.
Amanda knew exactly where this behavior would lead them but couldn’t bring herself to make him stop. He ignited her body. She thought for certain she’d burst into flames at any moment.
In an attempt to clear her senses, she took a deep breath, but when she did, she breathed in his scent. Lingering on the surface of his skin was the hint of freshly sawed pine, as well as strong soap used in an attempt to wash it away. It was an intoxicating blend, uniquely his. The aromas mingled with the male essences radiating from his pores and enhanced the masculinity of his being.
“Tell me that you want me,” he said in a raspy voice. “I already know you do, I just want to hear you say it so there won’t be any mistake.”
“I ..., I want ...” Amanda understood what she was about to consent to: Lust. She was on the verge of giving herself to a man she barely knew, a man she barely liked, simply because her body craved his touch.
“Yes,” he urged. He slipped his hand beneath her hips and pulled her tighter against his body. “Say yes.”
“No, Jake.” She pushed against his chest. “I want more than just this moment.”
“This won’t be the only time, Blondie. I can promise you that.”
